Southwater Caye is in the barrier reef chain of islets offshore Belize, about 14 miles southeast of the coastal town of Dangriga. The island is directly on the barrier reefline.
You can literally walk off Southwater Caye and swim to the crest of the barrier reef. What better way to get there than by a breathtaking sightseeing Helicopter ride. There are two different routes to choose from for this Helicopter Transfer from Belize International Airport to Blue Marlin Lodge. The options are as follows:
Option 1: Coastline & Mountains (Blue Route)
As you depart Belize International Airport let the breath taking view of Belize’s Coast line sweep you away. Indulge into the picture perfect lagoons, rivers and villages. Your flight first takes you over the Sibun River with its many twist and turns. As your flight continues to the South take a peek into the pristine Caribbean Sea as you over flight the Manatee Bar. If your luck is up than your chances might be great to spot the enormous Manatees. Further Along you will soar over Mullins River as you head into the mountains where the river starts. Next, you will head southeast overflying the Hummingbird Highway into Dangriga as you fly out to the Caribbean ocean into the Southwater Caye Marine Reserve before your final landing at your final destination Blue Marlin Lodge.
Option 2: Main Barrier Reef (Red Route)
As you depart Belize International Airport enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the Nation’s Commercial Capital Belize City. After leaving the City dive deep into the tranquil heaven of the Caribbean Sea let your mind relax as you soar over Belize’s beauties. On the way to the Reef, you can be one of the lucky passengers to view a manatee either sun-bathing by Swallows Caye or just taking a swim along the Cayes. Enjoy the spectacular view of the largest barrier reef in the western hemisphere, more than 185 miles long. As your Journey continues along the reef island hop over Spanish Lookout Caye, Goff’s Caye, Southern long Caye, Cross Caye, Tobacco Caye among others. Don’t forget to look out for Dolphins, Sting rays or sharks in the Crystal clear waters of Belize before landing at your final destination Blue Marlin Lodge.
